Postal Votes

If you will be away on polling day, at work or on holiday, or if you are physically unable or just don't have the time to get to a polling station to vote in person, you can still exercise your democratic right to vote.

You can choose either to vote by post or to appoint someone else - a proxy - to vote on your behalf.

To find out more about voting by post, please visit the Government's official site at:

http://www.postalvotes.co.uk

From this site, you can download an application form to vote by post.

Simply print the form out, complete the details and send it to the local Electoral Registration Officer at the local council's offices.

POSTAL VOTES, QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Q:    CAN ANYBODY VOTE BY POST?
A:    Yes. All UK based voters can now vote by post.

Q:    WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES TO ME TO VOTE BY POST?
A:    You are less likely to be bothered by annoying people on Election Day.
You won’t feel you have to rush down to the Polling Station at the last minute, in the rain, just as you are relaxing in your chair. You can still have your say even if you are on holiday, away on business or not feeling well.

Q:    DOES IT HELP THE CONSERVATIVE PARTY IF I HAVE A POSTAL VOTE?
A:    Yes. Statistically, a higher percentage of people vote if  they have a postal vote.  If you support us by using a postal vote, then we are more likely to get elected.

Q:    IS THE APPLICATION FORM DIFFICULT TO FILL IN?
A:    No. See the form for yourself by clicking on the link near the top of the page.

Q:    WHO CAN WITNESS A POSTAL VOTE?
A:    Any voter can witness your postal vote. Even your husband or wife.

Q:    WHAT IF I FORGET TO POST THE VOTE IN TIME?
A:    On Election Day, you may take it or ask someone to take it to any Polling Station in the London Borough Of Bexley.

Q:    I HEAR A LOT ABOUT ELECTION FRAUD. IS IT A PROBLEM?
A:    Not if you are careful with your postal vote and fill it in yourself. Some Labour politicians were convicted of election fraud with postal votes recently, so if you suspect anything contact the police.
